Week 7, day 3

Published today:

Since Oasis Immersion opened yesterday, I started on a piece showing photos that have been posted about it so far. It's funny because we saw MTLBlog make one and there's a bit of rivalry between the two publications (naturally, they're the competition) so we're often looking at what they do (and doing it better if we cover the same thing).

Today was one of the rare days that I opened Twitter, but I'm so glad I did! I was scrolling through the trending hashtags in Canada and found one that just said #RIPTwitter.

I thought that was weird and I was intrigued. Scrolling through it, I learned it was about Twitter announcing they were rolling out a paid account feature, like a subscription-type model. I immediately sent it to Ty, and it took a bit of convincing to let me do the story because all the news outlets we found talking about this just said "in a statement," but we couldn't find the statement anywhere (and we always link to the primary source for integrity).

The announcement had been made as part of Twitter's "Analyst Day," where they talked about their innovative ideas. I would've looked for a quote from there, but each person's speech was at least an hour long and I didn't have the time to go through all of it. After more research, I was finally able to find the statement and got the green light to write about this story.

Not only was it a national story, it was also published on the Daily Hive's US sites!
